A Celebration of Song

A successful fundraiser! ‘A Celebration of Song’ an enchanting night of singing and music by world renown artists Sean Panikkar (Tenor) and Tharanga Goonetilleke (Soprano) accompanied by internationally acclaimed pianist Rohan De Silva was held on the 21st of February 2019 at the Lionel Wendt Memorial Theater, Colombo. It was indeed a night to remember and our heartfelt thanks to the perfromers for travelling many miles to support Sunera with their astounding singing and musicianship.

Wayo in Concert

The popular band WAYO performed at a dinner concert organized by a group of businessmen in the Nittambuwawa district to raise funds for Sunera Foundation. It was held on the 19th of October 2018 at Mandara Reception Hall, Horagolla. WAYO kept the night alive with superb music and entertainment. Our thanks to the organizing committee and Sangeeth Wijesooriya for their support towards our work.

Young & Easy: An Evening of Poetry & Prose

Young and Easy’ – an evening of poetry and prose to celebrate the work of one of the twentieth century’s great writers: Dylan Thomas, was hosted by the British Council in aid of Sunera Foundation on the 22nd and 27th of October 2017 at the British Council Library.

Colours of the Silk Road

A Fashion Show with a difference, brought together a unique collection of exotic handmade jewellery perfectly matched with an exclusive range of beautifully crafted sarees and clothing modeled and showcased for the audience while dining to the delicacies of the Hilton Colombo High Tea.

Kadambari Jewellery Sale – 2016

The Kadambari Jewellery Sale ‘A Journey with Jewellery’, was held in Colombo 4 on 2nd December 2016, in aid of Sunera Foundation

Viocello – 2015

Viocello, a classical music concert featuring Joshua Roman, acclaimed cellist from the USA, Sri Lankan born, renowned violinist Mandhira de Saram from the U.K and our very own Ramya De Livera Perera on the Piano was held at the Lionel Wendt on 15th February 2015.

Rukshan Perera Live in Concert – 2016

Rukshan Perera Live in Concert VI’ in aid of Sunera Foundation was held on 7th February 2016 at the Bishops College Auditorium. Yet another generous donor and successful fundraiser!

A Tribute to Mary Billimoria – 2016

Four magnificent pianists, the internationally acclaimed Rohan De Silva and Sujeeva Hapugalle, along with Soundarie David Rodrigo and Ramya De Livera Perera, came together to pay tribute to their teacher Mary Billimoria who gave them the musical foundation and taught them the skills needed to excel in the field of music as they have done today.

Alison Skilbeck (Actor) – 2012

British actor Alison Skilbeck’s one woman show “Are There More Of You?” from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011, was a huge success. Alison played to a full house on both nights and the audience greatly enjoyed it.

Joshua Roman (Cellist) –2011

The brilliant young American Cellist, Joshua, was accompanied by highly accomplished Sri Lankan pianist Eshantha Peiris. The selection of classical music they performed, varied from the traditional classical, to the contemporary.

Kishani Jayasinghe (Opera Singer) – 2009

Sri Lanka’s own virtuoso Opera songbird, Kishani, accompanied by Chris Glenn, captivated the audience who gave her a standing ovation. She said, at the end of the evening, “I am so privileged to perform in front of my home crowd. Of all the places I have performed, Sri Lanka will always be my favourite”.

Barb Jungr (Cabaret Singer) – 2005

Britain’s premier Cabaret artist, Barb Jungr provided an exciting evening with her songs. She said, “Artistic expression liberates the psyche and soul of the individual, and this is of increasing importance in times of crisis or in people for whom usual forms of expression are limited.”

Glen Terry & The Glen Terry Group (Jazz) – 2003 & 2004

The great Australian jazz musician, Glen Terry and his band created exciting and innovative jazz music at these gigs.
